cutting board comparison

This beautiful 16×24 cherry wood cutting board will fit great in your kitchen and performs well! Every cutting board we produce is 2” thick which makes the wood sturdy, shock absorbent, and capable of withstanding frequent use without warping, cracking, or or chipping. Unlike other cheap retail boards and butcher blocks, our cutting boards and butcher blocks won’t crack with proper care and handling. As long as your board is cleaned regularly and effectively, you can expect our boards to last for years if not decades.

On top of its durability and long lifespan, cherry is a very warm wood that will darken a bit as it gets more seasoned. When your cutting board is first purchased, it will appear a light salmon color. However, as time progresses, your board will likely become a far richer red color similar to mahogany. This is also why cherry wood has served as a more sustainable alternative to mahogany for years now in cabinetry, hardwood flooring, furniture, instrument making, and more.

With this aging process, you can also expect your cherry wood cutting board to strengthen even further as well. Cherry wood actually continues to harden with age and also self heals making it a perfect material for the kitchen setting. Cherry’s natural Janka hardness rating is between 950 lbf (4,200 N) and 995 lbf (4,430 N) depending on whether it is black or brazilian cherry.

This means it is one of the most durable and shock absorbent woods on the market and is constantly getting better over time. For both commercial and home kitchens, this means any drops on the floor, deep cut grooves, and water is far less likely to irreparably damage your board. The self healing nature of cherry also helps to prevent food particles getting stuck in your board’s knife grooves and leading to food poisoning or foodborne illness as well.

Another reason cherry wood is highly valuable for cutting board production is due to the fact that cherry wood is cost-effective and one of the most sustainable woods on the market. Cherry is easy to grow, only takes a matter of a few years to mature, and still functions as one of the best woods out there despite its enticing price. This is why we highly recommend a cherry cutting board not just for its appearance and natural luster but functionality and cost-effectiveness as well.

All dimensions are approximate sizes. It is best to work with the natural characteristics of the wood first and the dimensions second.
