Sometimes you want a cutting board that lives out on display for all your friends and family to see. We completely understand!
A 20×30 custom cutting board requires extra skill and experience to do right.
A cutting board of this size requires careful preparation and a more skilled woodworker to pull off.
We see many boards this size warped and bowed, no longer sitting flat on your counter. We also see many boards this size with many smaller pieces of wood glued together. This causes extreme movement in the board in too many directions. Ultimately causing the board to fail.

Design considerations for a 20×30 cutting board:
- The board should compliment a color theme other than your countertops. Usuallly the color of the floor works as a great color guide. You can also choose a close color match to your kitchen cabinets.
- The type of wood used is important too. Woods all move in different ways with the changing seasons. And with a 20×30 cutting board you don’t want the board to move. The board should remain flat throughout the changing seasons and keep up with whatever you through at it. We start with wood that has been dried and cured to 6%. This is the optimal range for building high end custom furniture and we decided to bring that to the cutting boards we are building. We have had excellent results with this specific technique.
- One final consideration is the thickness of the board. Many makers cut corners on cost by building a board that is 1 1/2 inches thick. We have found this to be inadequate for a custom cutting board of this size. 2 inches thick or more is the ticket. It adds approximately $30-$50 (depending on wood selection) to the overall price. But the result is a cutting board that will last you generations.
